We have added a couple of new articles to the “Talk about that” page that we think you will enjoy. We have a story called “What is a ghost” and another about poltergeists. Go ahead, check them out and let us know what you think.
We have added some new definitions to our library. If you know of a paranormal term that you feel we should include, let us know
The Paranormal World
When we started G.R.A.S.P.P. back in 2005, it was all about the ghostly side of the paranormal. Our objective was to stay focused on the realm of ghosts and spirits. I feel that we have done a pretty good job, so far.
Lately I've been doing a lot of reading about the paranormal activities in and around our local west Michigan area. There have been a lot of sightings of the unusual over the years here. Reports of monsters, witches, whales in Lake Michigan, UFO's, USO's, the Dogman, the Hidebehind and many others.
I started to realize that it was possible to maintain our focus and concentrate on our goals. The world of the paranormal is quite large. It doesn't seem right to not recognize the other things out there that still sit as unexplained among us.
So, while the majority of our site is always going to stay focused on the ghostly, we our going to share the stories and experiences that we find out about the other things that challenge our minds and go bump in the night.
If you’d like to read more of these stories, go to our “Talk about that” page. If you have a story to share, send it to us at debunkers@graspp.info .
We have added a new book review for you from Amberrose Hammond, of the team of Michigan’s Otherside. Go to our book reviews page to read about the great book.

GONE HOLLYWOOD !?
I'll be the first (well, one of the many) to admit that television has changed how the world accepts and views ghost hunting and the paranormal community. TV has put talk of ghosts and other paranormal items on the tips of everyone's tongue and made it OK to talk about at the dinner table or in the grocery store. Whether you are a believer or not. If it were not for television, GRASPP probably would not exist. Our first ghost hunt was because of a TV show, and today we are still looking for answers to some of the same questions we had back then, and a couple of new ones. Jason and Grant, of the SyFy show “Ghost Hunters” are probably two of the biggest names in the paranormal world and have influenced many people to try out a pair of ghost hunter shoes. For a few, they may fit well, but for most of them, they will eventually end up back in the closet as the people realize they are more comfy just sitting in the recliner, feet up, with the remote in one hand and a cool beverage in the other. Television has made the subject main stream which has made the job of paranormal investigation easier. More technology has become available to teams, and there are more people willing to talk about there experiences. People have questions and want answers. They want to know what they are experiencing and they want to learn how to understand what it means.
You have heard all of this before in other articles and stories, most likely a few times. The debate in the paranormal community is whether this is a good thing or not. I am not sure anymore. I used to believe it was a great thing, investigators could not come out of the shadows they were working in and they were not automatically labeled as “nut jobs”.
Television has taken many people from a nobody to Hollywood celebrity over night and as of lately, this instant fame is really starting to tear people apart. The lists of the television ghost hunters that have gone “Hollywood”, and are now on the edge of compromising their integrity for better ratings is starting to grow more and more. Even the great “TAPS” family has made the list. Why is it that whenever someone is placed in the position as a role model or peer to our younger generations they lose sight of what they started to do in the first place and get so easily blinded by the fame and the money. This falls in line with many other role models of our society, just look at any sports channel or watch “Entertainment Tonight” to see what I mean. Some of you are probably saying “Ghost Hunters”, a role model – yeah right!” but you would be missing my point. These shows are not just about finding ghosts. They show people working together to find the facts, the truth about some mystery. They show team work. They show integrity, ingenuity and they teach us that not everything is as it seems (in more ways than one). We have been lead to believe that we can trust our celebrities, TV and Sports, only to find out that they can not be trusted either.
One of the first paranormal shows that I've heard about getting caught sacrificing the truth for ratings was the show “Paranormal State”. This group of Penn State college students turned paranormal investigators was the subject of a long list of accusations past through the paranormal field from group to group via an email. This email stated how this team would tell they family, that they were investigating for, one thing like “this psychic we're bring in has NO knowledge of events”, even though the psychic was fully briefed on the family and events by the producers moments before.
Then we have this show from the other side of the pond, “Most Haunted”. This team had a psychic who claimed to have a spirit buddy who would tell him what was happening on the other side of the light. Surprise! They found out he was faking it – really.
Donna LeCroix, formally of the “TAPS family” has recently spilled the beans on an web show called “Ghost Divas” and YouTube is filled with videos of her story and tons of other videos about this and other frauds in our paranormal community. My wife has spoken to Donna a number of times via email and MySpace and if I was forced to choose sides in this battle, well it's safe to say – Donna, GRASPP has got your back! For now anyway, I certainly hope that I've made the right choice given the trend of paranormal TV. Seriously though, Donna, we believe in you but you already know that.
Please don't believe that I think all of the things I see on reality television to be the truth. I understand that this is entertainment. I know how boring a real investigation can be. I understand the need to keep the viewer interested, is the difference between a paycheck and the unemployment line. But please take the acting out of reality TV or take the reality out. You can't have both, and expect people NOT to catch on. Come on people, don't insult our intelligence.
As of yet, I have not heard any stories of fraud about our beloved “Ghost Adventures”. Yes, I do watch the show and I do know that these guys have all gone to film school. I do believe that they can “overact” for the camera, but this is television and so far their treachery hasn't reached our ears, yet.
Everyone has to believe in something. I would still like to believe in truth and honesty. But it is getting harder to find today, than a full body intelligent manifestation.
We have a growing list of friends & we would like you to meet them as well. We have created a links page to host the banners of our friends for you to check out.
We are boldly shaping our organization to move forward in the paranormal field and we want you to help us. We need people who have an interest in being investigators, researchers and skeptics as well. We are looking for people who are willing to commit some time to help us in creating a group that is professional, honest, and one that extends our knowledge to those that need answers.
We are especially interested in people who have skills in computers, working on websites, photography, audio and video editing as well as people with a background in research and investigation.
If you are interested in joining us as we search for the truth in the paranormal world, then we can use your help. We want to talk to anyone who is willing to commit a few hours every month.
Please contact us at debunkers@graspp.info and we will gladly give you more details.
