The Chatman Investigation
We were contacted by Ms. Chatman in March 2009, to investigate a situation in her home involving her 5 year old daughter. It seems that her daughter was telling her of being visited by people she didn’t know and they were scaring her. She wanted us to see if we could figure out just what her daughter was seeing and to help her learn how to deal with it, if we found anything. Her daughter had also told her that mom's grandparents had said hi. The child has never met them before and she was able to point them out in a photo. We decided to check things out for her and see if we could find anything.
Mom showed us two older photos with the child at about age 2 or 3. One was a mist, taken outside in the winter which we would normally dismiss as moisture, the other taken inside a home where smoking is not allowed, both have a mist, hovering over the child. The mists are similar in shape and size. These photos aroused our interest, and later during the investigation we tried to re-create them without success.
Some of the people that the child has said to have seen are: “Alex” – an invisible friend, but the child said that he got sick, so he went away. She says he was older than her, about 14. The next was “Meya”, she tells us that Meya is hurt; her legs are bruised or broken and she asks for her help, also, the child is scared of her. Meya is sometimes mean to her; she hits her, and scares her, but mom is not aware of any injuries to the child. The child is reluctant to talk about her a lot. Mom tells us that the older daughter has a boyfriend, who has a baby named Mia, we wondered if this is where she got the name. Then we have “Lilly and “Sara” who are friends of Meya’s. Lilly will sometimes play with her and she is nicer. She was in a car accident with her mom and wants help as well. Sara will sometimes play with her and is nicer to her. Sara was attacked by animals and is all scarred up. The child likes to talk about Liley and Sara.
Some of the other events that have been happening are things like a flashlight that was found lying on the basement floor, turned on, when Ms. Chatman had come home and no one else had been home all weekend. A loud vibration on the dinning room floor, was heard by 2 family members and they could not find any explanation for it. Little things are also found on the floor that may have fallen, but not likely.
At one point, Ms. Chatman called to inform us of recent activity. The child had seen a shadowy figure walk past the TV. This had happened a couple of days before she called. Her oldest daughter was telling her about hearing someone whistling several times in the basement since we started investigating. Ms. Chatman told her about how the child had seen this shadowy figure go past the TV and older sister said she had seen a shadow go past her window in the basement, which blocked out the items on the window sill that night as well.
We did our investigation, a couple of interviews, took some photos, videos and voice recordings. We even did some internet research on “sensitives” to learn of other techniques that we could apply to this case. What few things that that we did find, like dust orbs and such in the photos, we were able to easily debunk. We did not find anything to explain the vibrations of the Dining Room floor, nor did we find any evidence of them.
We did capture some EVP’s that we felt were not of the best quality, but at the same time they were not easily dismissed.
Several months later, Ms. Chatman called us again as the activity had started again. We brought in a new team and began our next an investigation. I had Ms. Chatman, the child and the family dog with me out in the car while the team did there thing. The child had fallen asleep in the back seat as mom and I talked in the front. At one point the car bounced, as if someone had sneaked up and jump on the back bumper. There was nobody around.
We went through all of the recordings and materials we gathered and we did not find anything that even caused a second look. The incidence at the car was not caught on tape or witnessed by anyone else, so it just remains a personal experience. Another couple of months passes and Ms. Chatman sends us a small video that she had taken with her cell phone. She had stepped out of the shower and noticed that the steam on the bathroom mirror had water drips in it that seemed to spell “I lost it”, this falls in line with a myth/story that she had told us about the home during our first investigation that we really couldn't substantiate. The video was cell quality and we really couldn't enhance it or anything. We do feel that it was just matrixing, but it is very interesting and it will remain on our list to check into later.
This case is still open for future research, should our client require additional help. We were not able to come to any solid conclusions here and the activity seems to come in spurts. There is a child involved here, and we want to make sure that she is safe and comfortable in their home.
